We came across an interesting company on instagram called ardor and forge, we followed them and gave them some love and before we knew it, we were chatting with the owner and were given the opportunity to give one of their items a bit of a road test for a short while.
The owner of Ardor & Forge Zach has deisgned and made something very cool. Zach is very passionate and determined about this product as so should he be. His unquenchable drive to produce a watch that is not only functional but also rugged yet classy is to be seen in the Rothrock watch. Coming in 4 designs that all take inspiration of the beautiful areas of Pennsylvania, USA, each model has its own unique look but all the while keeping to the flawless basics of the Rothrock design.
Ardor & Forge literally means passion & creation. Ardor & Forge channels all of Zach’s passions and experiences to deliver a fresh, inspired watch design for all who re constantly awestruck by nature and are willing to fight to preserve it.
In the beautiful mountain town of Tyrone, Pennsylvania, Ardor & Forge was born in early 2017. They are committed to designing high quality products for all who want to be prepared for any situation that arises. They have a strong desire to build a community who shares their love for the outdoors, and their ultimate goal is to ensure future generations have the same opportunities to enjoy the amazing natural areas that have been entrusted to us by supporting conservation efforts locally and around the world.

The first thing you notice is the solid weight of the watch. Nothing is worse than some light weight items that feels delicate or that it will break easy. The rugged looks and solid 42mm stainless streel case make this watch look and feel….well unbreakable. The sand cast texture to the outside means it will take good use for all activities both outdoor and urban and the sapphire glass both front and rear mean no scratches or breakage while being put through its passes. High quality Japanese automatic movement will ensure time is kept perfectly all day every day.
The level of detail and finish is something you can only truly appreciate after actually holding it and really spending time looking over all the items of the watch. The view to the rear is sadly not seen day to day and this is a shame as it really has been designed and built so well.
To keep the positive comments going the watch was very comfortable due the soft leather strap and secure clasp. As previously mentioned the weight is good and makes it feel comfortable but also you do notice it every now and again which I found great.
So what don’t I like about it? Almost nothing. Some modern day features ideal for external use do allude the rothrock. Items such as an electronic back light, this would have been useful on a few activities but it is worth saying the glow in the dark backing does hold its charge for a while and the large clear display is easy to see when needed. Some people would prefer a date to be shown on the watch face as well but my personal thoughts are that this would detract from the clean design the rothrock gives.
The Rothrock is priced between $350-$500 which is not a unsubstantial amount, especially given the outdoor watches on sale in today’s market. But this Ardor & Forge watch gives a traditional watch that will run and run and is sophisticated and hard wearing in a world of daily/weekly chargeable electronic watches designed for the great outdoors.
The rothrock watch is a beautiful item hand covers the two main bases for the everyday enthusiasts in that it looks great in a photo showing taste and elegance but also a great hard wearing everyday watch that will keep perfect time and stay working for ever and a day.
