Welcome to this fourth edition of Meet Your Maker. This week it’s the turn of Shane from Australia.
Your company or trading name
Tell us about where you’re from, what you do, how it all started and why you enjoy it.
From Adelaide, South Australia. I do metal work, mainly lathe and milling work but I start out doing paracord bracelets while on shift at work. I enjoy making my items (mainly pens now) as it’s satisfying to make something useful and have it appreciated by others.
What are your aims and are there any items or products you’d love to make?
My aims are to have Mig rival many other the other great pen makers out there. As for items/products I’d like to make, I’d like to revisit click pens and eventually get expand my range to be more encompassing of other EDC tools.
What do you consider your greatest achievement in the work you do associated with EDC?
The fact we’ve managed to grow to our current size without any money spent on advertising.
What is the best thing you have made and why?
Our bolt action pens. They’re slimmer, shorter and cheaper than pretty much everyone else’s.
What EDC gear is in your pockets right now?
Currently a black cerakoted brass pen, a leatherman charge and an olight warrior mini.
What’s the favourite piece of EDC gear that you own?
Normally I’d say one of my many knives but thanks to a newborn, the Olight Obulb is the current favourite. It’s amazing for midnight feeds without waking up everyone else.
What EDC item would you love to own and why?
A Tim Kingsford folder or DB Blades folder. Currently have one on order from Tim so I’m looking forward to that!
A random fact about yourself that readers won’t learn anywhere else
I invented the VTech. 1/3rd southern comfort, 1/3 midori and 1/3 Fanta (orange soda). I’m not proud of it but it is magical.
